Unlike passive learning, active learning focuses on how students learn, not just what they learn. Students are encouraged to ‘think hard’. Rather than passively receiving information from their teacher, students need to actively engage in learning instead of passively absorbing. Research shows that students can’t learn by just listening. In active learning, students take part in the learning process. We cannot assume that students know what they need to know. Instead, we need to challenge their thinking.
Their teacher provides opportunities for them to build knowledge and understanding.
